I got to see him play a couple of times in Austin in the past 10 or so years. He was always a powerhouse vocalist, even in through health issues and struggles with mental illness. When I saw him, I think his adult son was playing guitar with him in a backing band called the Hounds of Baskerville. It was quite the show.

Such a tragedy, what was done to him. And what amazing music he left us with.
Nobody’s mentioned this yet, but my understanding is that it was Texas’ barbaric laws against marijuana that fucked up Roky in the first place. This is why he went into a mental institution - his alternative being many long years in jail for a small possession charge.
