Thanks. I didn’t know she was the artist, but I recognise her distinctive imagery from lots of short SF stories I read in magazines decades ago.

“Project Pope” by Clifford Simak was a great book - the illustration shown was on the cover.

I don’t know too many cover artist’s names but I knew hers, from dozens of Piers Anthony books. (Don’t judge. Well, okay, judge. I was young once.)


I remember reading an interview with her decades ago, before the WWW I think. (Where could that have been?) She mentioned that she used the same model for the male human as for the demon face in this cover
image
as the model was, conveniently, very ugly.

Fun fact: one of Rowena Morrill’s biggest fans was Saddam Hussein. When they raided his palaces following the invasion of Iraq, American soldiers found several of Morrill’s paintings (at first thought to be originals, some at least were later discovered to be copies). Morrill was apparently intrigued by the news, but not exactly thrilled.
