I understand the dystopian impulse, but optogenetics is a pretty leaky technique in most of its use cases. You can get large ensembles of activation or inhibition, but dialing in specific pathways–particularly if they’re deep in the brain–gets real noisy and tricky.

I know there’s a lot of social pressure to conform but sometimes hanging out with the cool kids just isn’t worth it. Just say “No” to Hive-Mind Enabling Cybernetic Implants.
