One can be a pacifist and yet also part of an activist resistance.
People have choices about how they invest their money. “these are investments that I do not individually select, control, or know the details about” is a ridiculous statement as far as I am concerned. Even if you do not select or control your investments, you’re always able to tell the people who do what type of investments you want to avoid.
Housing is unlike many other investments because it represents a basic need that doesn’t respond well to market forces. If you invest in real estate and you care about whether people are housed, you’re careful about what kind of investments you’re making and where.
just as a sidenote; it apears to me as kind of a sick and ironic joke, to see that old caricature seems to be “owned” by getty images…
"“being attacked for investing my personal money in communities that badly need such investment.”
They didn’t need this investment. The houses were already there. No new houses were built as a result of Hannity’s “investment”.
i think that point is worth highlighting.
it’s not just that he criticizes government programs while failing to disclose how he profits from those programs. he, and most fox commentators, are cultivating a world view that they can profit off of –
at the expense of the people they are preaching to.
they are sowing chaos for their own personal profit. and, while i think most people are oblivious about the effects of their actions, these folks know exactly what they are doing.
Yup. Someone is hopefully checking the taxes - very carefully…

gaming the system they helped create is NOT ok.
Thanks for the suggestion. I always think Mr. Rogers has me covered:
There was something else my mother did that I’ve always remembered: “Always look for the helpers,” she’d tell me. “There’s always someone who is trying to help.” I did, and I came to see that the world is full of doctors and nurses, police and firemen, volunteers, neighbors and friends who are ready to jump in to help when things go wrong.
But it’s always good to read actual research that has been done into things rather than assume you know them from anecdotes.
