I’m pretty sure that’s how Mikey from the old Life cereal commercials died, at a Nickelback concert.
What about Stryper?
Oh man I hated them even in the 80s…
I prefer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s stuff with Michael Brook, and find it more listenable than his traditional Qawwali music
Frank Zappa lyrics still make me uncomfortable.
Yeah, honestly, I don’t like her either. I don’t find her particularly feminist, more capitalist. Also, I really don’t like Liz Phair at all. Like, she totally sucks. [ETA] But that doesn’t mean they are illegitimate artists. Liz Phair is a corporate shill, though.
I’m not a huge Lou Reed fan, but I do love that song.
He’s written some good ones… Perfect Day, Coney Island Baby, almost all the VU’s music (I’m sure that having John Cale in the band probably helped). I’m especially partial to Sunday Morning, Pale Blue Eyes, and Beginning to See the Light.
As much as I would hate to be “that organism” - I think that Lou Reed’s best is, by far, Metal Machine Music. Although I do like VU and probably a few other songs here and there.
Neil Young’s 1991 Weld recordings and tour did not need more percussion … sign of the times.
More musicians should cover The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, like NRBQ did. And they should totally make it longer and with more verses.
Neil Gaiman agrees with you on MMM, so there’s that.
Let’s not forget Satellite of Love !
Whoops, I mean
The French still make prog. Gong lived in France and Magma are still on the go! Prog got the baby thrown out with the bathwater and the idiotic cognoscenti critics that freeloaded on punk poisoned the discourse for decades in Britain (and Ireland)
You made me realise was a profound experience for me 25 or so years ago. Though I’m not really a big My Bloody Valentine fan.
Merzbow has to be heard live. Is that an unpopular musical opinion?
I still love Exile in Guyville. Notsomuch her latter stuff.
Might I offer a subcultural addendum to that rule?
If you enjoy listening to German industrial metal, Russian & Polish folk metal and Trve Kvlt Norwegian black metal, never try to learn what they are singing about. Lyrics you can’t understand will be far more enjoyable than discovering a song is about a trolley falling in love with a prince.
