Should a Dungeon Master change a game campaign to be "cruelty free?"

Nobody? In the world I run, killing an intelligent being is considered murder. While some beings (the undead, constructs, beasts) can’t be reasoned with, the life of the muderhobo will very quickly get you placed on a list. Not all intelligent beings adhere to this idea, of course, just like in the real world. In those cases players can switch from “non-lethal” to lethal damage, but they’re still likely going to have to justify their actions.

Local quests are far more often “go bring this person into custody alive” instead of “go slaughter those green skinned people over there.”
