A human arm is more of a gimbal than that first stabilizer.

It only looks like random junk. It’s actually strategically selected and utilized stuff.

Egg-timer trick works quite well; I’ve used it with a point-and-shoot. For more control I made a rig with a stepper motor and an Arduino. The camera was triggered via its USB, so it wouldn’t take a picture during movement, avoiding camera shake.
