Honestly we probably shouldn’t be focusing on sending humans to Mars until someone completes an unmanned proof-of-concept mission to bring back some rocks or something first.

Really, if weight were not such a factor, a ship which uses a hollow hull for water storage would be ideal.

Or, if we could find a place to fuel up on potable water once in space.
