Man, when I was in grade school, the teachers seemed to be obsessed with square dancing…as if this was something we all needed to learn, like long division, and writing in cursive…
Yes. I believe Christopher Lambert finally got rid of him in the Madison Square Garden carpark.
I’m not going to go into the details, but I left for almost a year after I got frustrated with the fabrications in many of Cory’s outrage-journalism pieces, and the attitude that regulars (and occasionally mods) took toward folks who pointed them out.
I had been a regular before I left, and now I visit maybe once every couple months, just to see whether things have gotten any better yet. (I haven’t completely given up hope; I guess that means I haven’t entirely gotten my clue, eh?)
Anyhow, in case anybody was worried, I’m happy and healthy and doing fine. I don’t think about BB at all, most weeks. Turns out there’s a surprisingly large number of awesome, friendly communities out there on the Internet, and it’s a lot more fun and less stressful to simply join a community that’s already friendly and open, instead of wasting effort trying to ‘reform’ a snarky, defensive one. It’s more respectful, too; there are obviously people who like snark and in-group defensivity and Cory’s unique style of activism, and I now feel like it was rude of me to resist all that when I was active here. Sorry, everyone!
Anybody who today is feeling like I was feeling a year ago, please don’t go elsewhere because a regular here implied that you need to shut up; Do it because I’m here to attest that there really do exist places that are truthful, or that are kind, or that are respectful, or whatever your personal core value or values might be, which you feel are lacking here. And everything’s so much easier and less fraught when you find and join a community that already shares your values, instead of struggling against one that doesn’t want you there.
Or at least, that’s been my experience. And that’s all I have to say on the matter.
All the best to you all, whatever community you choose to represent, and choose to let represent you.
Amazed, but not even remotely surprised.
The quadrille consists of a chain of four to six contredanses, courtly versions of English country dances that had been taken up at the court of Louis XIV and spread across Europe.
So English folk didn’t need to go abroad to learn country dancing, although the quadrille itself was introduced to Britain at the end of the Napoleonic Wars.
In Brazil we call this dance Quadrilha.
This dance is popular in the northeast of the country and is usually performed during the festivities in honor of Saint John in the month of June.
quicksand midget porn didn’t work out so well.
Yeah… films end up not lasting long enough for the average user to finish. Compilations are the best in that case. So I hear.
Yeah, it’s kinda frustrating when BB calls out a lot of shenanigans, yet commits some themselves. I meant this isn’t as bad as Infowars propaganda, but still, in principle.
The cynic in me thinks he knows better and does it for virability. And conflict breeds interest and discussion.
This is a really interesting breakdown of how that kind of rap (the so-called “Migos flow” with trap beats) took over pretty much all popular hip-hop. All triplet time duh-nuh-nuh duh-nuh-nuh with a dude repeating the last syllable on every line, and little cymbal ticks constantly. It doesn’t make me enjoy it any more – it’s incredibly overplayed – but it’s at least interesting to learn about.
Or Ford dancing (Morris was a major UK car manufacturer of the 20th century, for those with less familiarity with UK motor marques).
And conflict of interest (integrity vs. virability) also breeds discussion.

@Melz2 Maybe those bitching about Cory’s writing tabloid headline style of attracting attention are still here commenting so as to point it out and prevent others swallowing his exaggerations and half-truths whole. Or perhaps we are his unconscious marks. Either way, as long as it does not change, commenting on it will remain ‘something to do’.
It’s true those posts look more and more like “clickbaits for liberals” (which I am btw : I’m just blaming the form)

This headline is ridiculous. I would like to posit that this sort of hyperbole from the left was coopted by the right. It’s what Fox News is. Cutesy games with language. It’s not a flat-out lie, exactly. The story itself is fascinating, if not much of a story at all in its presented format. She should have sat on it and written a long form article about it. Maybe Cory is trolling us with these headlines.
Anyway, I was also forced to take square dancing in high school(my high school was 60% black, but I honestly don’t remember their being a single black person in my P.E. group, in retrospect I think P.E. was subtly,or not so subtly, segregated). I don’t think everyone had to take it, it kind of depended on what cycle you happened to be on. I enjoyed it quite a bit, which I found surprising at the time, but I like music, and the songs were hilarious(although I don’t remember “diving for the clam”). In fact, I think my enthusiasm was unappreciated by the teachers, who perhaps thought I was mocking the whole thing.
Many of the kids didn’t like it, of course. Some(most?) of the girls were less than enthusiastic about being partnered with my nerdy self, as well. For some convenient reason, there were exactly 8 of us that were interested in being good at it, and we would conspire to be grouped together(the two genders would stand in lines and pair up two by two). The segment ended with a “final exam”, which was a major part of the grade, and you were allowed to choose your group. When our turn came up, we were presented with the most recent, and complex, song that we had only performed a couple of times(on top of that, we could never quite complete our group with the random pairings). Our final grade for our performance was given a “C”. I was not cool with that at all, and I got into a heated argument with the teacher about it. This resulted in us getting another dance, this time to the first dance we learned, which we did quite easily. The teacher, again, gave us a “C”. When I received my report card for that grading period, I received a spiteful “D” in P.E.

Thanks. I do find stuff like that interesting.
It’s a problem. This and all the other nutty blogs I follow are interesting at least, just you have to really read between the lines to find the kernels of truth. They are all kept under the folder “bullshit” to remind me to add generous amounts of salt.
