I was tempted to put that clip of the original pilot episode of Star Trek, with Christopher Pike in the wheelchair finally being freed to live out the rest of his life with the illusion of full mobility; that image always made me think of Hawking being freed of his Earthly binds.

My favorite story about that cameo is that when they were showing Hawking around the Enterprise’s engineering set he looked at the warp drive and said “oh yeah, I’m working on one of those.”
