What I’d read about the last records of events at Roanoke made it seem that very bad things could easily have happened one way or another (like, early Jamestown-bad) in the three years they waited for supplies. I certainly hope they were peaceably assimilated into one of the local tribes, as this sounds like it would have been the only survivable option for them.

I wonder if LIDAR can be used to scan seabeds to reveal hidden wrecks like it’s being used to scan jungles to reveal hidden cities.

This story also contains racism. Many Pacific islanders said they saw white female and male pilots captured by the Japanese and taken to the base on Saipan, during the occupation well before the war. Their stories were documented first hand, as well as being passed down to their kids and grandkids. Yet they continue not to be believed and instead we have all kinds of wild theories floating around.

I doubt it. Lidar is just light. It doesn’t penetrate deep water very well.
