I am just shy of 5’11" and not that overweight and I had to watch my head. The inside of that thing is tiny.
I didn’t realise it was that low, but I had been told seats were a tad better than the average economy class seat.

Fancy seats to be sure but they didn’t look any roomier than any other airline seat I have been in. I imagine the 4 hour transatlantic flight time and free booze helped a lot in overlooking that.

By the time BOAC became BA, they didn’t exactly pick the fare price out of thin air. Instead they asked their customers how much they thought they were paying for a flight, which turned out to be higher than the actual ticket price, so they just upped the ticket price to meet people’s expectations.
