This became obvious years ago when articles came out noting how tech executives like Zuckerberg didn’t let their own kids use social media.

Sadly i don’t see a world where kids can be fully unplugged despite well intentioned efforts

Never been entirely clear as to why the causal arrow doesn’t run in the opposite direction. Kids that have to spend 3 hours a day on social media likely don’t have other places to go to form friendships and socialize. It’s criminal the degree to which we don’t allow space for kids to exist that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

I’m not even convinced social media is safe for full grown adults. Heck I’m not even convinced television is safe!

Time spent seems less impactful than what they’re being exposed to. Five minutes doomscrolling beheading videos is worse than three hours liking each others’ Instagram selfies.

There is a clear correlation with early social media use and higher suicide rates in tweens and young teens, especially among girls. It sounds like social media at those already difficult years is not a good thing for one’s mental health.
