Found the initial Inside Edition video. It shows him start to open the car door before closing it and waving his partner off.

I too was surprised that they tracked me for such a large distance. Regular yellow jackets will only follow me around 10 meters, but having experienced it firsthand, I completely agree with Wikipedia’s info:
“Their aggressive defensive nature, though, makes them a threat to humans who wander too close to a nest or when a nest is constructed too close to human habitation.”
