Thailand bans Dogecoin and NFTs: "No clear objective or substance"

I mean just the way they’re excepting it from taxes reeks as a play at being a tax shelter.

It’s already a country with such an unstable economy they don’t issue their own currency. Deep corruption and organized crime problems (which means money laundering). Ultra-Right Wing leadership, serious stability problems, and roving humanitarian crises.

None of which seems to get mentioned in all the “this is it!” chatter.

In the 1849 gold rush some miners made fortunes and some lost fortunes. No such gamble for men like Sam Brannan who were smart enough to hurry out there but instead of making claims, start selling picks, pans, and shovels at prices to go with the inflated demand.

So nobody is taking advantage of Africa here…the Nigerians are I guess then making their own processors and graphics cards to create these energy-intensive casino chips?

I wonder if there is any chance that encouraging bitcoin miners is a cynical ploy to use them to build out the power generation capacity at the miner’s expense, then declare such mining illegal, and send the power to the national grid.

And I wouldn’t have a single problem with that.

“What did you Earthlings do once you achieved a type 1 civilization on the Kardashev scale?”

“Well, it’s funny you ask. We poured the energy of our planet into a currency exchange that requires its users to waste as much energy as they can to compete instead of using it to replace greenhouse-emitting fuels and raise the standard of living. So…can you tell us more about this Galactic Federation?”

“Don’t call us, we’ll call you.”
