Speaking of Afrofuturism, I truly adore Oshun:
These are older, but also hard-hitting:
i missed the man himself, but one of the highlights of my life has been getting to see the sun ra arkestra led by marshall allen. also worth mentioning is pharoah sanders and art ensemble of chicago.
p.s. i think your bbc link is broken.
Sounds like Detroit techno might not get a lot of coverage in the article, which is too bad! To be transparent, it’s also some of my very favorite music.
I’d say T-1000’s art for records on DJAX (and others, if memory serves) is also primo Afrofuturism. Very cyberpunk!
Big up to Sun Ra.
Parliament Funkadelic, Afrika Bambaataa, Marvin Gaye, OutKast, and now the fabulous Janelle Monae have all contributed to the music of Afrofuturism.
Def bumped Aquemini ~ 5 this am while desperately trying to stay awake in my studio
That album is my fav by them, with ATLiens as close second.
See esp. 6:00 to 10:00:
