I didn’t mean the real reason. I meant the excuse reason.

Now I do agree 1000% with that. I’ve been irritated for years about the media (and therefore everyone else) focus on the presidency vs the legislative branch and individual state governments.
And as a 40 year old middle class white guy, I don’t even feel all that well represented in terms of opinion or background, so I sure as hell can’t even imagine what the rest of the country that doesn’t fit the very specific niche that is represented and the slightly larger group that’s being pandered to feels like.
