I wonder how they eliminated the gravitational effect of the moon stressing the Earth as a possible cause?
Currently, they can only look at the inside of the planet during earthquakes

There is a great book on the technical history of mechanical clocks whose name I forget, where the author takes the records of the errors of the most accurate pendulum clocks ever made (in the 1930s, right before they became radically obsolete) from a period of a few years, runs a Fourier transform on them, and was able to see these frequencies in the data. I always thought that was pretty amazing.
