It is probably worth pointing out that like many of the classic informal fallacies, it is not a natural law; it is possible to make an argument that strictly speaking suffers from the genetic fallacy yet has value as an argument. For example, standpoint theory – a common idea in ethnic studies and women’s studies – is occasionally dismissed as falling under the genetic fallacy. However, standpoint theory is certainly not nonsense.
