Whyyy does my mind tend to think of less-common words first?? I mean, I knew my third and fourth guesses weren’t likely, but, hey, you never know

Sooner or later the less common words will be it. If they are choosing the day’s word randomly from available words left those less common words have to show up sometime.

That’s okay, I can’t either. ALIEN is one of my favourite starting words, and when I was lucky enough to get the L in the right place I looked for a word containing another vowel and some common consonants (S and T). Imagine my flabbergastitude when it all showed up green!
Fun story: I probably use ALIEN more than any other start word, but I like to switch it up from time to time, so a couple of weeks ago I used ADIEU. When I entered it, the answer was pretty obvious. Yep, ALIEN.

Well…There are only 2,309 actual answers for Wordle, whereas there are 13,000 possible five letter words in the English language. The limited answer list was chosen to be “more recognizable” by Josh Wardle’s partner. (source)
(The game will end sometime in October 2027. There were 2,315 words on the answer list until the NYT bought it and removed six words from the list.)
Besides the actual answers, an additional 10,657 words are accepted as guesses (“support words”) (source)
So I don’t think that less-common words will necessarily ever be actual answers…unless they were words that Wardle’s partner happened to know.

It would be cheating if I could remember all the words that have been used or knew which words are left.
I’m sure those lists are out there but even if we knew which words were left it would still be a crap shoot among the remaining words.
That’s too much work for me, I like guessing.
