The gif stops before he eats that butterfly though…

Gets pretty gross after that, I’ll stop there.
If only he’d stopped to think whether he should

New Ken Loach, yay

Ah, fuck it - I’m gonna re-watch this tonight:

IMO, as underrated as Colossus - The Forbin Project.

I remember when that came out, and created quite a buzz, back in the day when it was a lot harder to do so.

Where do you think his later incarnation learned the lesson?

I very highly recommend ZAMA. This has an incredible slow-burn to it. The main protagonist just can’t seem to…

I watched it on Film 4 one night, when the on-screen guide was broken and even the ad-breaks said it was a different movie. Obviously you watch a movie when you don’t know what the plot or genre is, right?

His given name wasn’t an issue when he was on the show Rat Patrol a few years earlier

Well, maybe it was ok to have a German name whilst playing a Nazi?

I’ve never seen Rat Patrol, but I found this detail of the imdb’s plot description interesting:

Their most common nemesis is Hauptmann Dietrich, though Dietrich and the Rats join forces from time to time against a common enemy.

Makes it seem like the G.I. Joe of its day.

Pretty much. It was a pretty goofy show. Half an hour of jeeps bounding though the desert, machine gunning the same US vehicles made up to look like Afrika Korps ones. Terrible for binge watching, but fun for intended weekly viewing.

It is on reruns with a cable channel in my area H&I Heros & Icons.

All part of a Saturday night, old war TV show block with Black Sheep Squadron, Tour of Duty, Combat! and 12 O’Clock High.

One of Ralph Bakshi’s best (and most generally accessible) films.

Saw that on TV as a kid in the early 1980ies, still remember bits of it.

ETA:
It also explained quite well how exponential spreading works.

Anyone seen Midsommar?

I’m wondering if it’s just typical horror fare, or if there’s something more interesting or intriguing about it.

It is miles above “typical horror fare,” the direction and design are excellent, and Pugh’s performance is amazing.

Thanks! I think I’ll give it a shot.

For some reason, what I know about it reminds me of Haneke’s The White Ribbon, but I know they’re probably very different.

I liked it… but be warmed, that there are some pretty graphic, violent scenes - this is the same guy who did Hereditary, after all. I did not find the scenes in this film nearly as shocking as the one in Hereditary, tho.

Honestly, one weird thing about Aster is that he seems to like showing women going through very primal kinds of grief? There is one scene at the beginning of Midsommar that reminds me of a scene in Hereditary along those lines… I kind of wonder what that is all about?

Hm. I could see that, actually, in a weird way.
