The Happy Mutant's Filmgoer's and Video Viewer's Companion

I loved it but was worried Pussycat would hate it, but she loved it too!

I think the Vanity Fair piece is accurate. For me it’s one of those films where the symbolism might be confusing, but you just have to feel it. It’s surreal but also can be interpreted as a hallucination by the protagonist.

Have you seen Devs?

Sorry, I never answered this! No, I have not!

That list is missing Possession and really needs more Cronenberg and less Gremlins and also They Live is not a horror movie.

Devs was very good, a straight sci-fi thriller.

Also… no Phantasm? Really?

Now that it is on peacock, I have finally gotten around to watching Cocaine Bear, Which I did not realize is also a The Americans reunion!

It is a very good action/horror/comedy… legitimate laughs, fun to watch, and there were only a couple of parts that I had to close my eyes for! The CG bear is also surprisingly good!

Overall it’s real dumb, very enjoyable, and I highly recommend it if that sounds like your sort of thing!

This was good, better than I expected, and I learned some worthwhile facts about horses and prison.

IT’S RARE WHEN a young female filmmaker scores a breakout like Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre did when she unleashed The Mustang at Sundance 2019. Now audiences can see what all the shouting is about. The ticking time bomb of male rage — dangerous if you get too close — may seem like an unlikely topic for a French actress to tackle in her feature debut as a director. But don’t expect this firebrand to stay corraled by sexist preconceptions. Clermont-Tonnerre comes from a place of defiance, and her fearless instincts surge through every frame. Each time you think you have this movie pegged, it’ll knock you for a loop.

Loved The Americans! Particularly that it ended properly unlike so many shows. I thought Cocaine Bear was just the trailer extended though, am I wrong?

Went to see this with the childer yesterday in a tiny cinema.

Good fun, kids loved it, had talking cats so that’s a given.

You are absolutely not wrong! But what a great trailer to extend! Like Snakes on a Plane it is precisely what it says on the tin, but unlike snakes on a plane it was entertaining throughout!

(And it was nice to hear Kerri Russell doing her accent from Waitress again!)

I watched Crimes of the Future last week with newly adulted kiddo#3 and ….whoa…. The opening scenes were a punch in the face and then it got weird.

It’s the Cronenbergiest of all his films - the eXistenZ organic tech, the body horror of … every other film … and the sets reminded me of Naked Lunch. When kiddo said “she even looks like she has Judy Davis’s haircut” I had a moment of pride.

Just watched The Menu, and I got to say, I was a bit wary, but I thought it was well done…

Also… why isn’t Judith Light in more stuff! She was great in it…

JMHO: The choral played during the dune-hole scenes helped to make that film. Eerie and a touch otherworldly.

After watching that film when I was a small child I became sensitive to anything that touched the back of my neck! Lasted a couple of years. I’m okay now… really.

We just saw the first two episodes of The Diplomat with Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell. Well written, very engaging, great supporting cast.

ETA:just saw third. Michael McKean has fun in it as essentially cranky Biden.

the mum and i wayched this last night. i gotta say, we both were left wondering if we fully understood it with its twists and weirdly convoluted characters and how they fit together in the narrative. very well done. not a “dramedy” by any means, but a poignant story of doubt and love. and that other thing. :+1:t3: :+1:t3:
