To be more specific, his hatred of the TPP when talking to people who hate the TPP. No doubt there are other people on board with Trump because he supports it.
You know, just like he hates trade with China, while importing his Trump-branded clothing from China. And how he’s anti-abortion AND pro-choice, anti-same-sex-marriage AND pro-same-sex-marriage depending on the crowd.
He’s makes the same anti-NAFTA noises that candidates from BOTH parties are expected to make. But he won’t scrap it any more than the others because it’s a good deal for the US.
I don’t think that he’s there to help write the platform so much as to schmooze with legislators, who may be there in their capacity as super-delegates. It’s a good chance for face time which become important whey you have to persuade them to pass the legislation that you’re proposing…
Edited to add…He might also be there to feel out possible future legislators. Many legislators were delegates before they were elected to office. Getting a feel for the views of people who might in future run in an open primary could give a lobbyist an idea of who to throw some money at.
Lots of commentary there by the authors of “feelthebern”, not so much by Sanders himself. It appears that he is good on surveillance and net neutrality and has been largely silent on copyfight issues.
Yep. ‘Rough around the edges’. That’s trump, all right. Just a few kinks to work out with rounding up a few tens of million people and sending them home kicking them out of the U.S., disassembling NATO and most U.S. treaty alliances, recommending that other countries start building nukes for their own protection, “fixing” the drought in the Western U.S, ensuring that American women know their place…
Yeah. Just a few tiny little edges there–nothing to worry about (OTHER THAN POLITICAL CORRECTNESS AMIRITE).
I do recall reading posts from a few Sanders supporters on BB who were either explicitly or implicitly #NeverHilary. Still, silently sitting out the general election doesn’t strike me as a very effective form of protest. I hope those who plan on doing so also plan on raising (non-violent) hell with their representatives to push them towards real political change.
Just kidding! I really have no idea what the hell the conflicted voter is to do.
You mean like Mexicans being rapists, that we should deport all Muslim citizens, we should kill the families of terrorists, and that we should do more not less torture. Yeah… I’ll pass on a racist wouldbe Putin.
That strikes me a bit like saying Hugo Chavez had a great anti-corruption, people-first political platform once you looked past his populist rhetoric, inflammatory bombast, and tendency to subvert political enemies by whatever means necessary.
In short: I don’t care if Trump is getting his positions from an advisory council comprised of Krishna, Christ, Buddha, Mohammed, and Lao Tzu. The guy’s an authoritarian and authoritarians don’t belong in any branch of government, especially one with constitutionally granted executive powers.
His anti-TPP stuff is just for the rubes who are foolish enough to take a confidence artist at his word, just another way to assure them that he’ll magically save their jerbs.
You’ll have several choices this fall that enable you to keep your streak intact while not voting for Clinton.
If you do decide to vote for her, that’s your privilege. But when all those bankers who paid her and Bill for speeches, and all the oil sheiks, pharma patent holders, H1B employers, and outsourced manufacturers who contributed to that “charitable” foundation start calling in their markers in 2017…be prepared to look in your mirror every morning and say “Yep, I voted for this.”
And in particular, please don’t insult anyone’s intelligence by posting here on BB to the effect that you did not see it coming.
Republicans used to warn of revolving door prisons, but revolving doors between government and industry are a real danger to freedom and good government.
A candidate should be known by the company s/he keeps. In this case, is it surprising that Hillary’s Democratic party besties are this douche MPAA lobbyist, Hilary Rosen (former CEO of the RIAA during the napster years), Dianne Feinstein, and a number of other “IP-friendly” corporatists?
Oh, and is Hillary going to give back the Elizabeth Holmes/Theranos dirty money donations? No?
