Not sure if it would be the same in Chicago, but when I lived in Wichita in the 80s, the law allowed for younger folks who could commute directly to and from work to have permission to do so after curfew hours.

That was the case in Michigan, and yet my friends still often got hassled for it.The law also wasn’t supposed to apply to school or athletic events, but I got hassled by the cops driving home from an indoor track meet.

Yes, you are right. But of course the law specifies that this is only in extreme situations where the child has had to step in as a major wage earner in a family for emergency reasons, because in normal society 14-year-olds are supposed to be concentrating on middle school, not paying the bills.

Indiana is also offering jobs for the taking for any Chicago cops who won’t get vaccinated. No cash bonus, though.
At least Chicago will be safer as a result. Not so great for Indiana, though.
