For a very brief period, I crossed paths regularly with a few of the people who founded Living Blues Magazine. Conversations with them gave me some food for thought. Things like “It’s entirely possible to be a great Blues singer without being a good singer. Most of the music industry doesn’t work that way.” and my favorite, “When it comes to The Blues, white people always get hung up on the guitar. Black people want to hear you sing.”
That sounds painful.
Willie Dixon did make it sound a bit rough and tumble…
“Down to that union hall
Gonna romp and tromp 'till midnite
We’re gonna fuss and fight 'till daylight
We’re gonna pitch a wang dang doodle all night long”
Just follow the directions, side effects may vary.
