I think the kids been reading Stanislaw Lem. I remember one Lem short story (but unfortunately not the name) that centered around the psychology of smashing robots that screamed in pain and tried to escape every blow

WE have a Roomba that runs in our upstairs training room after hours. One of our guys is a bit of a jerk; I would be afraid he would discover this video and add the scream function to the sweeper. I can see it now: dark second floor, and all is quiet, until “MOTHERFUCKER!!1!!!”
