The sad old motels of Barstow, California

The song ‘Get your Kicks on Route 66’ was not written by, or even first recorded by Chuck Berry (as the author of the article misattributed.) The song was written and published in 1946 by jazz songwriter Bobby Troup, with the first notable recording released the same year by Nat King Cole. Chuck Berry recorded a cover version in 1961, and there have been numerous other recordings over the years by artists such as Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters, Perry Como, Depeche Mode, Aerosmith, Natalie Cole, and the Manhattan Transfer, among many, many others.
