I teach film production. The current generation of kids has no memory of interlaced broadcast video. They don’t associate that high frame rate smoothness with soap operas / game shows / infomercials / low budget production.
I dunno… I don’t think for most things it is worth the time and cost to restore the original film elements. Which means upconverting media is a viable way to enhance the quality of lower interest media.
Though yes, it would suck if someone took something GOOD and half assed it with an upconverted version, and not bother with restoring the original.
