Well, I know I’m definitely not going to Arkanasa.
“Red” usually means “bad,” right?
huh. There does seem to be a theme running through those states. Running red through them. Seems like it should be pretty obvious…
No. It means gerrymandered.
And of course it hurts the people who live there… whatever their politics. In fact, the people who suffer the most are those least able to get out… the poor, the marginalized, POC, women, queer people, etc…
In term of governance, equality, fairness, ability to function? Yeah, pretty much. In terms of the actual inhabitants? Nope, not at all.
Hey, I moved up (er down?) two spots changing states. Score!
Honestly a bit surprised Mississippi isn’t on there, but good for them, I guess.
Waving “hi” from Indiana and sadly nodding agreement.
ArkaNASA is the Arkansas space agency.
Did you notice that Floriduh is missing from the top 10?
Alabama is Nr. 3, right there with Indiana. Can I join you on that bench?
The Tennessee GOP is gunning to increase our ranking, just you wait! I have no doubt they can pull it off with just a little more focused partisan fuckery.
If only one of the scores was for “legalized racist bullshit” we’d already be #1
Glad to see TX as 1st on there
I was kind of surprised they didn’t include infrastructure in their criteria, but I guess Texes “won” even without taking their utility grid issues into consideration.
As a counter-balance, here are the ten highest quality of life states according to the same rankings:
New England makes a good showing.
And, no surprise, not a Republican governed state in the mix. Because taking care of the job you were elected to do is some kind of socialism, dontchaknow.
I am guessing there are not enough states to answer the question that raises for me but: Are red states that are gerrymandered significantly worse than red states that are not? I would imagine the answer is “yes”
You got an example of a red state that isn’t? If so, is it a state on this list?
Can’t find the extended list…kinda curious how Illinois did. I’d guess in the 10-15 rank, since it’s overall pretty good. The current gov has done a mountain of work to fix things screwed up by the previous two people in that role. I’m pretty happy to live here currently.
And regular Arkansas is just Kansas for pirates.
