They got rid of them when it was revised in 2007. New dash didn’t allow for them, but did allow for air conditioning that didn’t rob the already cramped legroom. The pressings in the bulkhead were still there though.
A Defender typically has enough leaks to compensate for the loss of the flaps.
BMWs are luxury sports cars. They are bought by people who mistake them for luxury cars and drive them like they are playing with all the buttons.
Ask a status-purchased BMW driver about their car burning oil! I’ve had more than a few complain to me about how something has to be wrong even tho the mechanic says its fine. Also, they misunderstand why the tires are so expensive! Its not because the car is German and posh, it is because they have sports car wheels on them and are meant to go fast. They also complain about the rough ride.
I’ll have to take your word for it. A producer buddy of mine drove a 5-series sedan circa 2004, and though the car displayed no indication whatsoever where to find a spare tire or the tools to change one, it had a diagram affixed to the inside of the trunk lid that displayed how best to fit three bags of golf clubs into the trunk.
Me Da almost got one of those, and even tho I was wee I still remember the test drive to this day because (especially for the day) the turning radius on that car was exceptionally tight.
My dad bought a brand new 68 Buick LeSabre back in 68. I remember that it had those crank-to-open wing windows. I grew up in that car. The front end design, the look of the tail lights, the steering wheel, square speedometer, the hubcaps, man, that car looked like my dad.
I also miss the vents. It’s just as well I don’t smoke anymore, because the vents made it so much easier.
Also, get off my lawn.
I always preferred the less gaudy look of Jim Rockford’s Firebird, but then again if he’d been driving the Trans Am version maybe he wouldn’t have had so much trouble outrunning the baddies in their giant sedans. As an adult rematching the show I think that was a terrible advertisement for a sports car, as he could never seem to outrun anyone and it clearly handled very poorly.
I rarely use the vent windows in my '86 Alfa Spider because it is a convertible so I usually don’t need the extra air flow. The locking handles fell off years ago and I haven’t gotten around to gluing them back on. Why bother? Anyone who wants to break into my car just needs a pocket knife to cut through the top.
Might not have a spare our the tools to change one. The 997.2 doesn’t. Tired aren’t rotatable or interchangeable. You get a flat and it’s a tow. Also weight.
The full size spare is also something I miss/love about the VW. Hell! My spare is interchangeable and it’s not the same size as my regular tires/wheels. Same diameter.
Nah, it cranks right up no problem. Most reliable car I’ve ever owned. It is missing a few critical bits: (1) bumper badge (gets stolen all the time); (2) Odometer; (3) 2nd gear synchro. Oh, and handles on the vent windows.
