Fun Fact! Because the two species are related closely you can graft a tomato to a potato plant, grow and pick the ensuing tomatoes, then later dig up spuds from the same plant!

You can graft a tomato plant onto a datura root-stock, but [spoiler alert] this does not end well.

You can do the same with hops and cannabis, though I’m not sure if cannabis grafted onto a hop plant will produce psychoactive stuff.

Well there are quite a few things that one should eat in moderation, or avoid entirely if possible, but sometimes hunger overrides that?
machineel! man, you do not want to go near that tree! brush a leaf and you will have a nasty, flaming rash. get some sap on you and it will blister like some super caustic or acid chemical burn. super nasty tree.
i believe the last super genius that tried to eat one was in the 80s(?). he recorded his short, sad experience, noting that it did indeed taste like an apple. he was dead shortly thereafter.
they do grow wild here in the Keys, but mostly on the small, uninhabited mangrove islands to the west (the 10,000 islands).
