Uh… wut?
I’m familiar with video over USB 3.0 and even have a laptop that supports this.
This gadget description says USB 2.0, though.
ETA looks like this uses a special USB-driven display driver

It started with 2.0 as 1.0 didn’t have the bandwidth. As with any new thing there was a hodge-podge of attempts for better or worse and no real standards, but it worked! 3.0 is much better.
