This supposedly-popular Austin restaurant is entirely AI generated

You do realize that this is being used by fascists to spread anti-trans, anti-Black, anti-Democratic, anti-science, etc, etc propaganda. They had to evacuate FEMA workers just last week because of this. There were DEATH threats of people trying to help those in Western NC thanks in part to AI propaganda…That’s not “fun” that’s fucking dangerous. People are being threatened and could be killed because of this shit. It’s not a fun weird thing to laugh at… :woman_shrugging:

[ETA] Also, I think you completely ignored the point that @anon15383236 made about the environmental impact of data centers needed to fuel these things… add that on top of the whole aspect of this stuff being used for disinformation and to support a fascist takeover, this is not just a “well, these are people just having fun” notion. It has real consequences and maybe we should start taking those consequences seriously, given where we fucking are right now. We are literally having a debate in this fucking country about whether or not a demented fascist, backed by a bunch of White Christians nationals and fascist tech-dude-bros is a better candidate for president than a smart, well qualified woman of color who has actual solid policies that would help a wide swath of the American public. AI is playing a role in that. It’s not an accident or just a fun lark by some fucking weirdos. It is having REAL consequences for REAL people. Can we treat it with the seriousness it deserves maybe?

So, no food available from a business purported to be serving food. Then there’s the man being slapped with an eel. Absolutely Pythonesque.

I agree with @anon15383236 that AI-as-massive-energy-hog portends a future too horrible to contemplate. So yeah, “fun” /s.

(The article either quotes verbatim or paraphrases Schmidt’s many hyperbolic pro-AI claims including "AI wIlL sAvE uS!!1!1. There’s a special circle in the afterlife for guys like him who are ready to sacrifice a livable planet and climate breakdown countermeasures because those are “too lofty to pursue.” Yeah, fuck that guy.)

“We should go all in on making money because surviving is too hard.” It’s amazing how many of these people don’t even understand money doesn’t exist without a functioning society.

It’s all fun and games until the grid crashes catastrophically, in a hard-to-fix way.

I can imagine a spec-fic novel set in the future, where AI entities are de facto electric companies, because without electricity, AI simply cannot function. A Mad Max but with fewer gasoline jerrycans and way more batteries and wires and…

… uh-oh…

Money is a natural phenomenon! I know, because my dad told me that when he was a kid, they had a money tree right outside their yard, according to his dad…

That was The Shed at Dulwich. Always worth a repost.

Nailed it. You have the historical (and current) precedent of aluminum plants, which are so electricity-dependent that they are their own power plant.
