Nintendo have a long history of weird fitness accessories.
Exhibit A : the Power Pad.

I think the most interesting thing about the Power Pad is that they came a hair’s breadth away from inventing Dance Dance Revolution more than a decade early.

I’ve always respected Nintendo’s interest in getting people moving with video games. Even Pokemon Go is a kind of expression of this.
