My oldest son was a huge Thomas fan. In the 90s, we went to a Thomas steam day in the South of England; we met the author of the series, Rev W. Audrey, who was signing copies of the books. He was fantastic - loved the way kids responded to his creation - but he clearly wasnāt the beneficiary of a media success.
A lot of programming for kids is made in Canada. I think it has a lot to do with having multiple public broadcasters with mandates to have a large block of showed aimed at kids. The CBC nationally and ones like TVO (TV Ontario) provincially. A certain amount of it has to be Canadian-produced so they have to make it anyway. And since the Canadian accent is very similar to what American TV wants, that programming can be sold in the US.
That makes a lot of sense.
Not to mention, thereās tons of government grants and funds for producing television here. And Nelvana is here, and they produce a RIDICULOUS amount of childrenās TV.
