Threads is the censorial fake-woke corporate brand paradise right wingers thought Twitter was, and it's going to crush what Twitter has become

… an “extended universe” for the real world

If Zuck really wants to up the ante on this rivalry he’ll adopt Musk’s trans daughter.

Maybe Melon should replace blue check mark for this? It will probably popular among his fans.
The perception wouldn’t probably change much and more to the point.

Threads currently doesn’t let me do what Twitter does best, which is give me a feed of just the people I follow for special topics. And the user interface is less information dense. So far, it’s just Instagram with threaded topics.

But, I’m not going to write it off just yet, in spite of all the terrible privacy. But in spite of all the sign ups, it is not a Twitter killer, not yet. I’ll leave the killing of Twitter up to Elon, since he’s so good at it.

and it’s going to crush what Twitter has become

I sure hope so. Preferably, Threads would then collapse on itself and die, as well.

As awful as Zuckerberg is, he is worlds better than Musk.

Working as designed.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I mean, shouldn’t slightly less publicly shitty billionaires be celebrated?

If by celebrated you actually mean exposed, well …

… “better than Musk” is hardly extraordinary

Not liking that invisible hand so much now, eh?

That’s okay. The Bluesky guy, who’s complaining about all the Twitter clones, forgot that he sold Twitter.

I guess this is how capitalism works now? When you buy a company, you are and have always been that company? An eternal but endlessly shifting present like in 1984 except Big Brother doesn’t even rewrite anything, just waits for it to fall off the google front page?

Goes hand in hand with hearst-style capitalism. Not content with just the means of production, the true capitalist must also own the means of recounting.

Thanks for posting that! The RW are working the refs and testing the system.
Media Matters for America just did a good analysis of this.
Far-right figures, including Nazi supporters, anti-gay extremists, and white supremacists, are flocking to Threads

In addition to joining the platform, right-wing and fringe figures have posted about the limits of its moderation, while also questioning whether Meta will “censor” them — which is a false claim that right-wing media and figures frequently employ against social media platforms with moderation policies.

The big social media platforms have moderation policies. They just don’t always enforce them.
As I posted on Mastodon @spocko@mastodon.online

"How many new users will first read their Terms of Service & Community Guidelines? I will.
Based on the people who I follow & who follow me I suspect there will be a few.
BUT, I know 98% don’t. We few, we happy few, have a role to play.
Read ‘em & demand #Meta act on violations of their own rules.
Unlike #TruthSocial, #RUMBLE, or #Twitter under #MUSK, #Meta DOES attempt to follow its Community Guidelines. They have the resources to enforce’ em so make 'em. If they don’t, fine them.
And this is important. meta wants to make money. They will try to keep Threads #BrandSafe to do that they will need to employ content moderation policy. But there is no GOVERNMENT regulation to ensure that they keep it safe. Only if the Brands decide not to show up.

This is why the Center for Countering Digital Hate says we need to have financial penalties when Social Media Companies don’t protect the community. Because there is currently no financial incentive to kick off engaging Nazis. In their “Star Framework” they describe how collective action and legislation can address the dangers of online hate and misinformation.
