Threads is the censorial fake-woke corporate brand paradise right wingers thought Twitter was, and it's going to crush what Twitter has become

… just for anybody who hasn’t seen it yet, this rant by Mike Masnick has somehow become the new standard tutorial on social content moderation

I keep thinking I need to say something profound, new or original about Threads. But I don’t, so I’ll repeat myself.
Social media companies need to be regulated.

We can’t count on “The Market” to stop them from being used to spread threats of violence, deadly disinformation and hate speech.
Because as Frances Haugen, the Facebook Whistleblower has shown, when engagement is the metric for success, hate speech and disinformation wins. Meta will put profit over safety.

AND, if like Musk’s Twitter, or Trump’s Truth Social, you don’t care about profit from advertisers, losing money can’t be used as a tool to force content moderation.

I’m happy with this first, self-referential and overly-explanational (not even a word) sentence, but it has tired me out thumbing it (to coin a term), so I had chatGPT write the rest - here goes!

Threads: the social network that promises to unite all internet trollies under one roof…err, thread. Brace yourself for epic battles of wits, GIF wars, and the occasional kitten meme. It’s like a digital WWE, but with less spandex and more emojis. :boom::men_wrestling::joy:

Huh, all this time we assumed it was the headlines being written by the AI.

Or in Musk’s case…Hearse-style capitalism.

Threads, huh? Sounds like social media is unraveling.

Doesn’t he have a CyberTruck hearse version? I hear it’s steel ball-proof and floats.

I’ll come back when you actually write an article.

We’re trying. With Threads not launching here, I wonder if this will turn into a long-term rift where US/UK and EU social media are two parallel ecosystems. That would be against the spirit of the internet, but as long as the US isn’t willing to step up to the plate with regulation, there may be no alternative.
