I’m going to vote for the democratic nominee in the general election, no matter who it is. I have my preference and I’ll be disappointed if she doesn’t win, because I think Bernie would be a bad president.
I wish I could say I think we have two good choices in this primary, because–like I said upthread–I am probably closer to Bernie on policy desires. But I just don’t. I think he’s a bad choice, and the only reason I’d vote for him is if the other choice is obviously worse (as it would be in a general matchup with Trump).
But in sum, yes: I wish you luck. Bernie definitely won’t win without dedicated support by people like you. If you think he’s the best person for the job, you should do what you can to try to get him elected. I could absolutely be wrong about him or the election or both–it wouldn’t be the first time or the last. If that turns out to be the case, I will do my best to make sure Bernie is elected president, and I will hope fervently that he succeeds in his goals.
I’m just beyond tired of hearing the carping about a fix or a conspiracy. I’m not voting for Clinton because I am a Wall Street shill–I’m not one. I’m not voting for her because I’m in the pocket of the national party, because I’m not. I’m voting for her because I think she’s the best person for the job.
Middle-class tax cuts, tuition assistance, Supreme Court nominees who will safeguard Roe and overturn Citizens United, and (I hope) comprehensive immigration reform, as a start.

I can only speak for myself, but I’m voting for her because she’s highly qualified, smart, capable, and has realistic policy goals that take into account the actual political conditions in Washington. [/QUOTE]
Right, but none of her policy goals have to do with stopping this sort of heinous 1%er awfulness. So what’s their appeal, when compared with a candidate whose policy goals do address this?
I can grok hating on the Bernie Bros, but I don’t get why you think a lifelong politician has no idea how to accomplish his policy goals and also why hating on Bernie Bros means that Hillary is actually a good candidate?
She will get less done than Obama. Do you not know how much Republicans still hate the Clintons?
Doing anything about the overcompensation of fired and retired CEO’s will not be on her agenda. If you want to talk politics, there’s a <a href=“https://bbs.boingboing.net/t/generic-2016-us-election-cycle-recycling-bin/65103"target=”_blank">thread for <a href=“https://bbs.boingboing.net/t/why-or-why-not-to-vote-for-hillary-clinton/72574"target=”_blank">that. This thread is about the outrageous severance package a corporate figurehead was just gifted.
I love that when 600+ deeply connected party officials pledged their votes BEFORE THE FIRST DEMOCRATIC VOTE WAS CAST, BEFORE ANYONE ASKED THE PEOPLE THEY CLAIM TO REPRESENT it is other people who are crazy loons for saying… hmmmm. that looks suspiciouly like a subversion of the process.
Leadership from the front is one thing. Leadership like THAT though? That’s the past. This is the last time you get away with it, too.
Yeah, Bernie supporters, what a cray cray bunch, amirite?
Nothing to see here… Pay no attention to the wizard behind the curtain.
I think that Bernie won’t achieve his policy goals because I am friends with and work with people (both D and R) who have worked with his office. He takes hardline positions that, while attractive as talking points, are divorced from real policy concerns. I trust their judgment.
One example: He went after Martin Shkreli by making it harder for generic drug companies to make any profit on their generic drugs. As a result, at least one company will no longer be able to produce several popular generic drugs because it will cost more to make them than they can sell them for. But it made for a nice bullet point on Bernie’s list of accomplishments. Or would have if it had had any effect on Shkreli, whose company isn’t even a generic manufacturer.
The fact that I agree with many of his policy goals doesn’t change my assessment that he’s really just a friendlier demagogue than Trump is.
Middle class tax cuts: putting a band aid on cancer.
Tuition assistance- Is she going to fix the problem, or is she simply going to give colleges more money (350 billion)? Learn how the Clinton’s are in bed with for profit college: Hillary's emails reveal lucrative ties to for-profit colleges - Raw Story
SC nominees: Bernie or Hillary gets a say, congress can’t hold out forever.
Imigration reform: Bernie or Hillary will both push for this.
I agree that Bernie is going to have a tougher time than Hillary getting bills signed. But I would rather have an ineffective president fight for me, than a president that signs what ever garbage bills come her way to undermine my well being and the well being of the planet.
Those all sound like valid reasons for you to support Bernie. He’s still not my choice. I’d rather have a president who will achieve 20% of my policy goals than one who will achieve 1% of them. It sounds like you’re working with different priorities. Pluralism!
