That is super cool, I started by ignoring all the writing and just watching the video and it looked so much like it had an analogue step, like a real camera with a not quite stable platform. Then I looked at how it was made and indeed it has a whole lot of analog steps 
Now I want to see what happens if the seed image is Conway’s game of life.

That’s a great idea to use the game of life as the seed for the 2nd feedback loop, will give that a try. I just uploaded a new one - I go from the previous one dot as seed to two dots (one on the left side, one on the right side), making nautilus-like shapes and 3Dish wave-like curves:
