Nah man. He uses h2b visa’s to bring foriegn temporary workers to do that. A visa program he’s promised/threatened to end and restrict.
He uses illegal immigrants to build his buildings. Then doesn’t pay them. Then loses lawsuit they file about not getting paid.
And that’s why a federal judge rejected it. A few suits like this have petered out, because they’re based on the 13th. These people are supposed to get back pay, their benefits are still in tact (for now). So technically they’re being compensated. The 13th amendment was always sort of a push for this.
But Trump has been awful loud about how the people being hurt are “just Democrats”. And not only is the government specifically barred from discriminating based political affiliation. But there are potential 1st amendment violations if Trump believes this will hurt Democratic voters more so than Republicans. Which he certainly seems to believe.
Seen a few write up by lawers and Constitutional scholars then last week or so arguing discrimination and the 1st are the stronger frame work to sue under.
And the biggest thing with federal jobs are the benefits. You get a pretty much second to none pension, and pretty damn good health, dental, vision etc coverage.
The level of benefits you really just can’t get in the private sector anymore. You quit you walk away from that. Likely before you’ve earned that pension. So your starting over on retirement planning. Have no health insurance.
But at least the private job market for Park Rangers is booming right?
I have family members who were compelled to work without pay during previous shut downs and due to the sequester.
Technically they’re supposed to get back pay. In practice most of it never shows up and many people are still fighting to get full restitution from previous shut downs. And the short term practicalities of not seeing a pay check, and cut backs traded to get the government back open tend to leave a lot of people financially devistated.
