This is not surprising, since Trump lies about everything, all the time.

Today the House Intel Chair is trying to warn the country of some Russia related “serious national security threat”.

Let’s just assume it’s trump.

Thanks for linking to the CNM fact check. We all know that of course but it’s still convenient not to have to look up specific numbers every time.

In fact, this Trump claim was new to me:

The cost of NATO’s headquarters

While criticizing NATO both during and after his presidency, Trump has claimed that NATO spent $3 billion on its headquarters building in Belgium.

Facts First: Trump’s $3 billion figure is not close to accurate. NATO told CNN in 2020 that the headquarters building was constructed for a sum under the approved budget of 1.178 billion euro, or about $1.27 billion at Monday exchange rates – certainly an expensive facility, but less than half what Trump has claimed.

You know what, I would hope that our most important alliance would spend enough money on an efficient and resilient building for its leadership.

You can tell Trumplethinskin is still lying because he hasn’t shut the fuck up yet. Lying is all he knows how to do, but he sucks at it because he’s so mind-bogglingly stupid.

How about if they stopped “paying their bills” and just started putting money in his pocket?

Would he then be all for NATO?

I’m gonna say “yes.”

Predictably, Trump’s creature, the House Speaker has said there’s nothing for people to worry about.

I don’t know why this news cycle clicked in my brain, but how does constantly, obviously, even brazenly lying fly in congress? I mean, is it not as simple as contempt of congress? These aren’t matters of opinion, or even the sort of complex “politicians lie” kind of stuff. Just openly, demonstrably, intentionally spewing bald faced lies that are plain as day right there in the room - isn’t it just a non-starter in any other context?

Washington couldn’t tell a lie
Nixon couldn’t tell the truth
Trump couldn’t tell the difference

That’s not true - a lie has to have some relation to reality, some concern for the truth it misrepresents. Much of what Trump says doesn’t - it doesn’t even rise to the level of “lie.”

That’s when you lie to congress (from outside it), creating a situation where MTG and her ilk can have a hearing, say false things about the people testifying, but they’re legally required to be truthful in their responses and show a level of respect that the MAGAts don’t have for their own offices.

Even $1.7 billion euro was a HUUUUGE waste when they could have copied this secure facility for a small donation to an account in Zurich!

You have stumbled across The Orange Menace’s motivation for siding with Putin over the USA and NATO.

It’s that good old speech and debate clause that lets them get away with saying anything they want. Or in Empty G’s case, being able to display pornography.

Given the orange turd is being charged with falsifying building records in New York, I’m not sure he can be treated as having any idea what buildings really cost. :stuck_out_tongue:
