Really a tragedy that this trial isn’t being televised. Can’t imagine anything more significant to the health of the nation than witnessing this greasy villain’s behavior when confronted with a bit of way overdue justice. Instead of that we’ll get every minute of his fusillade of lies during court recesses. -sigh-

But giving mistresses money to keep their mouths shut isn’t illegal. Prosecutors must prove the payments were made to further crimes, such as campaign finance violations, or were lied about in tax filings.
That’s why I wish the media didn’t call this a “hush money trial” but rather a “campaign finance fraud trial”. It’s another example of their constant need to downplay the crimes of this grifter.

I so want Trump to act up in court and get put in the slammer for a few days to cool his heels. The case is 50/50 in the hands of a jury, not holding my breath. But some slapping his weewee for contempt might be the only satisfaction we ever get on this.

IANAL but from what I’ve read the payments themselves were the campaign finance violations. Because they were made to prevent damage to his campaign, they were undeclared campaign spending.

Precisely. And as it turns out, the crimes and fraud he committed weren’t necessary, because the devout evangelicals he was worried about are actually fine with his committing adultery with porn stars as long as he wins and delivers anti-choice justics to the SCOTUS. Not that the corporate media will be discussing that, either.
