Two huge earthquakes hit near Anchorage, causing major infrastructure damage

Thank you. Mostly just tired and headachy now.

Some water sloshed out of the toilet tank and a cd-shelf fell over…and… we just had an aftershock. ho boy.

Yeah, just felt it. Alarming as hell after this morning, but they are trending as less energetic at least.

Our big concerns were gas leak and water and we seem to be fine on those. Stacks of firewood fell over outside and in the arctic entryway, and the library’s a mess, but I count us super lucky.

No, you’re thinking of muskeg.

You can’t sweep muskeg. You have to mop it.

We didn’t feel the aftershocks in Fairbanks but the initial quake shook my bus this morning. Hope y’all are doing alright!

You can’t mop muskeg. You have to use a shovel attached to a paddle.

So far!

Aren’t we so glad Trump diverted $10M from FEMA to go towards immigrant detention? /s

Glad you and your family are safe (and the bunny slippers).

Tell that to the folks around New Madrid!

Ah, they got a backup Madrid somewhere.

While I’ve put off creating one, this really did hit home. We live on the wrong side of the line in the PNW that is supposedly not going to survive, reading about this is the wake up call I needed.

At the risk of sounding like a “Doomsday Prepper,” having a certain amount of ability to survive a disaster is a really really good idea. FEMA is extremely limited in its ability to respond and help, especially since Il Douche started cutting its budget to support his military fetish. It doesn’t have to be the End Of The World to be a really bad day.

Nah. Preppers prepare, or think they do anyway, for the end of civilization, not its temporary interruption.

Exactly correct. We had a derecho through here a few years ago, and were without power for a week. We have a generator and some cash set back, so it was an inconvenience, but no biggie. For a lot of folks around us, it might as well have been the Apocalypse to hear them talk about it. My wife watches the coverage of Maria, the California wildfires, etc, and checks our canned goods again.
