U.S. intercepts Russian bombers and fighter jets off Alaska coast

Unless Russia is actively contained it will actively creep outwards. It’s just another Putin tactic, (to complement a global network of paid for useful idiots like a certain orange tumor)

Isn’t that weird to think of? I remember how inevitable it seemed, even at a distance (cause I’d never been to Berlin), but I remember when it came down, how amazing and unbelievable it was that it was happening… But when you look back on it now, it was such a short period of time when Berlin was a divided city, and the wall itself was up for an even shorter period of time…

There is a book about youth culture in the Soviet Union that came out a few years ago that sums up that sense of inevitability that people had about the cold war more generally, Everything Was Forever, Until It was No More:

Which for me, hammers home the idea how in our day to day lives, we can easily get complacent about how THINGS ARE (that they seem natural), until something changes (or rather, someone makes something change).

Okay, now I’m getting philosophical here… back to 80s songs about nukes!

So, there is a station here that is a sister station to another station, which is a classic rock station. The classic rock station now plays stuff like Pearl Jam and Nirvana, but the other station plays lots of “classic alternative”… And it’s good stuff!

I do this way too frequently. :unamused:

I have body piercings older than some of the friends I hang out with.

To be fair we play the same games with our subsonic bombers of a similar vintage::

I still think I’m in my 20s.
Until I meet people in their 20s.

From my own experience, the more you use the word “kids”, the older you are.

Here’s a video from the 1960s of a B-52 interception that didn’t go so well:

Well yes, the B-52 IS old (and both have had some updates) but the B-52 has jet engines at least, not making it look so old.

It’s good! They even have an hour where they do the play list from a local dj who had a show years ago on the old alternative rock station that was always excellent (called the house of retro pleasure)… double bonus, the station has no commercials, other than station Ids and the broadcasting of the games of the local minor league baseball team and a local hockey team… Though they play too much Live and Dave Mathews band for my tastes…

I’m thinking about getting a lawn so I can tell those pesky kids to get the fuck off it with their damn phones.

There was an old man in the news here a little while ago who had a radio station in his shed for years, broadcasting only to his wife. A local station gave him a one-night slot to celebrate this and made his dream came true!

(The bit about him playing a song for “that special someone” that his wife hated therefore uncovering his affair, leading to divorce, I made that up…)

I’m not worried. The 80s showed me that we can handle these things with barely an interruption to the camping trip.
