U.S. intercepts Russian bombers and fighter jets off Alaska coast

Here’s to hoping they keep it cold. Both Trump & Putin seem relatively hotheaded.

Entering the ADIZ is not the same as entering US airspace. The whole point of the ADIZ is to define a volume of airspace which will be monitored. The Russians or anybody else are perfectly entitled to fly there.

As have Germany, Belgium, Italy and Turkey. German pilots were actually trained to drop them. Some said it violates the constitution, but… “meh”.

I’d really love to see a more powerful, global movement to get rid of that shit. Or the next best thing, have at least the Americans pick up their nuclear trash from my doorstep. As the US Democrats now seem to have positioned himself to be more hawkish towards Russia though, that probably isn’t going to happen in the foreseeable future :<

That’s the crazy thing, seeing modern stealth fighters escorting a plane that’s been in service for over 60 years.

Though america still uses the B52, which first flew the same year as that Russian plane.

So why don’t they report the counter-incursions the US makes?
These are all military exercises both sides carry out.

Can’t say as this didn’t cross my mind. Honestly, they do this sort of thing all the time. Everyone with half a claim to some kind of northern sovereignty is testing the other guy’s limits. But this go around, with “this Rusher thing, with Trump and Rusher”, it’s headline news.

The bulk of the aircraft proposed to replace the A-10 are prop planes. The A-29 is already seeing action.

What? Trump, certainly, but Putin is a cold, calculating, and above all, clever Russian leader. He plays a long game and plays it well (from Russia’s perspective), whilst being able to take advantage of any opportunities that come his way. Perhaps the only leader colder and more calculating is Xi in China.

Well… hotheaded is maybe not the correct term for Putin but, as Ukraine has shown, he’s not afraid of actual war-acts.

If you wanted to observe US 5th generation aircraft in flight, what better way than to have them intercept you?

…when they have close to zero risk of anyone retaliating in any meaningful or vaguely risky (for him) way. A few sanctions merely helped him propagate his “Russia is the victim here” line with the populace. And he was equally right that nobody would really call him out on Syria, either, despite some bellicose tokens from the USA. He knows what he is doing at every step, unlike Trumpty Dumpty who cannot open his mouth without fucking up.

I was walking home from school once when the air-raid siren went off. I nearly soiled myself.

Terrifying indeed.

To be honest, the 4 Minute Warning isn’t even long enough to take a shit.

Depends on how scared you are I suppose.

This new environment is at least making the old cold war thrillers less irrelevant, so there is that.

The 80s are as far in the past today as the 40s were in 1989.

Oops, make that “the 50s were in 1989”

That’s new to me. I look at it and immediately think “Hey, they brought back the P51.”
