We were so close to Armageddon in the Cold War so many times. I suspect we will never know about all of them, or how close it actually was. Terrifying does not even come close.

There were at least 20 documented false alarms, and in a few of those cases all our bacon came down to one or two cooler heads making the right coin flip call. So yeah, terrifying indeed.

Military aircraft are the opposite of trees. With aircraft, first you shoot them up then you shoot them down. With trees, first you chop them down, then you chop them up.
