U.S. Navy sailors banned from drinking in Japan

I was half-joking. As for the other half, Canada tries to punch above its weight and get involved in every US or UN military action. (*1) It’s arguably worth the effort for the extra influence Canada has on the international stage as a result.

*1) Including Iraq, where despite “not being involved”, our contribution quietly exceeded most other countries that were formally part of the coalition.

That is certainly true. We tend to tag along on most UN or US military actions much like an eager younger sibling following our adult older sibling if only to remind the world we used to be relevant.*

  • And by relevant I mean the brief time we helped set up the UN.

When did “adequate military for self-defence” become synonymous with “world leader”?

Wow. This is a bit passive aggressive isn’t it or do you actually think it was “too bad?”

Read it how you will. I think it’s awesome you got to spend 2 years there. I also think it’s a shame you weren’t given the chance to learn about history of the place.

I think you’re confused about who you’re replying to. I’ve never served in the military or been to Okinawa (though I have been to Japan).

Sorry about that. My bad. I incorrectly assumed this was a continuation of the conversation.

I posted this elsewhere, but my daughter and I have a theory about Canadian Geese… the reason Canadians (as a people) are so nice and polite is because you all take all your anger and hate, stuff them into Canadian Geese and send them south of the border.

Some of us down here see what you’re doing, at least!

That is the most cogent explanation for Canada geese I have ever read!
