I’m not sure if I’m doing this “reply as linked topic right,” but I just noticed the reply to my post. The situation that the Ford guy was describing was that the needle will not move once the engine has reached operating temperature. Since I was trying to determine exactly when a thermostat was opening in relation to other ECM inputs, I needed to see some “small” fluctuations in temperature, like from 100 to 180C and back down to 100C again. The needle in the dash, he told me would not indicate such changes, so I had to use the diagnostic display mode on the odo. (Or use Torque, which is what I chose to do.) So we’re describing the same situation, the three of us, and–as far as I can tell–my flagellum remains unmolested.
