I wonder why ■■■■■ is blocked, but the word that rhymes with blunt is not.

I think it is blocked. We have to use the phrase “alt-right” instead.

There’s usually some sort of cunning stunt one can employ to get around these restrictions.

You can actually see in the preview that it isn’t.

In Belgium, they’re doing Leopold II now. Good.

(I got my picture of the decapitated Stalin statue upthread from rarehistoricalphotos.com. While I was there, I found this article on the Congo Free State, Leopold II’s personal appanage:

It is as deeply upsetting as the headline suggests, so be warned.)

ETA: sorry @lizard-of-oz, didn’t mean to reply directly to you, in case you were wondering about the non sequitur.

Good. For more info on one of the world’s least-known mass murderers, there’s this. I warn anyone that it’s the most upsetting book I’ve ever read.

Incidentally, one of the first to bring the atrocities to world attention was a shipping clerk who noticed that a fortune in rubber and ivory was being sent from the Congo to Belgium, while Belgium sent no trade goods, only rifles, ammunition, and shackles.

Though, definitely read that whole link on Morel. He wasn’t that great, just better than Leopold, which was a massively low bar.

Tell me this,
Why were the slave masters given compensation,
And those that suffered not given a thing?
Why did they then invade Africa?
And make Africans slaves in their homes?
With the Belgians killing 10 million souls
In the Congo alone
Why then Jim Crow, why Apartheid?
Why did Black Wall Street burn that night? :musical_note:

From Maangamizi, which I’ve already posted upthread.

Don’t they need better branding? Won’t the independents be turned off by this? /s

Here he is:

Bristol Conservative councillor Richard Eddy has accused protesters who toppled Colston’s statue of engaging in “frenzied thug violence”. Describing the former slaver as a “hero”, Eddy said he was “horrified and appalled” after the statue was dumped in the harbour.

Eddy, who was forced to step down as deputy leader of Bristol City Council in 2001 after he used a golliwog doll as a mascot …
