Understanding Comics delves into the history and modern interpretations of graphic literature

Making Comics is a great follow-up for anyone who wants to roll up their sleeves and put some of these ideas into practice.

He also did Reinventing Comics, which doesn’t seem to get mentioned nearly as often.

His bit on iconography, and why artists may opt for more realism or less realism, really struck a chord with me.

i would go even further and recommend Understanding Comics to anyone with an interest in narrative and story telling. among my improviser friends, it’s a go-to guide for ideas about telling compelling stories.

Another thumbs up. Really good stuff.

This very good but Will Eisner’s Comics & Sequential Art and the followup books are better
